Dear Stargazers,

There's been a great deal of attention focused on the "Great American Eclipse" that will occur on August 21, and while it's certainly significant, the upcoming Aquarius lunar eclipse on August 7th shouldn't be discounted.

I know from your emails that many of you are already feeling the impact of this one. (Me too!). There's an unpredictable quality to eclipse energy, and like Uranus, eclipses can change your life on a dime in the most unexpected way. In what can seem like a blink of the eye, they can deliver a crisis or a miracle to your doorstep; and if you're not where you should be in life, they can get you there in a hurry.

As you read about this eclipse below, keep in mind that:
  • (a) this eclipse is about bringing something to light, to fruition or to an end; and
  • (b) an eclipse-related event doesn't have to be physical event; it can just as easily be a major life decision.
Before I dive into the eclipse - as well as other upcoming planetary action -  I want to offer a heartfelt thank you to everyone who purchased a North Node Destiny reading. The response was amazing, and yes, I will be continuing this subscriber-only series of specialty readings for $75.00. I understand my rates are beyond many budgets, and I want you to know that I have a few other very affordable ideas in the works (including a free one) that I think will make a lot of you smile.

Finally, I want to give all of you a heads up that as of August 30 my 90-minute in-depth reading & 12-month forecast reading will no longer be available for purchase. It's time to make some changes (this Leo/Aquarius cycle of eclipses is very much about my career), and going forward, there will be more than one option for a natal analysis/forecast reading based upon how deeply one wants to delve into it.

If you have (or have given) a gift certificate for the 90-minute reading, be assured it will be honored and that that this reading will be given in its present form no matter when it's redeemed. Likewise, if you're on a payment plan, you'll get the reading you purchased. For those of you who have been thinking purchasing this reading for yourself or as a gift, you have until August 29 to do so. If you need to set up a payment plan, just send an email kate@debraclementastrologer.com, and she'll work with you to create a plan that works with your budget and allows you to take as much time as you need.

That said, let's take a peek at what the heavens have in store for you!
PLANETARY FORECAST
JULY 30 - AUGUST 13, 2017

PLANETARY EVENTS

July 31:  Venus enters Cancer
Aug 03:  Uranus stations retrograde
Aug 07:  Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius
Aug 12:  Mercury stations retrograde

BEST DAYS

While there are other days during this time frame that are fine, these are the best of the bunch. What do I mean by the best? The energy is flowing, the moon isn't void and there's a greater likelihood for happy and/or productive outcomes.

Aug 9, 13

BEST AVOIDED

The energies on these days aren't favorable for new ventures or any activity where you want or need a definite result. If you must schedule something, you may have to think on your feet, or there may be a need for patience or flexibility.

TRANSITING VENUS IN CANCER
July 31 - August 25

After several weeks of non-stop activity in Gemini, it was time for Venus to check out of the sign of perpetual motion and into the cozy, soothing and nurturing atmosphere that Cancer calls home.

Thanks to her rulership of Taurus, Venus has an earthy side that enjoys a comfortable home, hearty meals and well-stocked cupboards. Although she appreciates comfort foods, Venus in Cancer will never be a domestic goddess like the Moon because the she-crab’s aprons are a bit too rustic for her style. Still, while she’s immersed in this domestic and family-oriented sign, she shares many of the Crab’s values. Consequently, she may find herself browsing the real estate section, reading home & garden magazines and daydreaming about the pitter-patter of little feet.

While it’s true that Venus can be flirty and hard to pin down, while in Cancer she’s devoted, steadfast and in it for the long haul. The Crab is nothing short of tenacious, and while Venus is here she be possessive and more than a bit clingy. Although she has the best intentions, her need to nurture and take care of her partner can make independent and self-sufficient types feel smothered. However, for those who share her level of commitment and appreciate her attention, love can last from here through eternity.

As the planetary ruler of money, Venus has a strong interest in finances. Since Cancer is a frugal sign, Venus thinks twice before splurging and believes in saving towards a home, emergencies, retirement and any number of rainy days. While here, she’s extremely security-minded and will review her savings plans, reconsider her investment strategies and shop in bulk.

Since Cancer rules the past, Venus tends to be nostalgic whenever she visits this sentimental sign. Likewise, during this time you may find yourself reminiscing about old friends and former flames. If the past starts tapping on your shoulder or tugging on your heart, just remember that it’s perfectly fine to go back for a visit as long as you remember that memory lane tends to be littered with selective memories.

URANUS RETROGRADE
August 3 - January 2, 2017

On August 3, the planet known as the Great Awakener will station retrograde at 28°31' of Aries, and once it does, it will backpedal through the sign of the individual self until January 2, 2017. This means that f
or the next 5 months, this energy will support self-discovery and breakthroughs in consciousness through the use of introspective tools.

This period of time is excellent for discovering beliefs or unconscious patterns that limit your freedom or hold you back in any way. Since Uranus in Aries is associated with liberation of the individual, this is the time to ask yourself bold questions to help you identify personal thoughts, beliefs, patterns or relationships that have undermined your progress,  so you can take decisive action and overthrow them. If you do, when Uranus stations direct, you'll be ready to move forward as well.
LUNAR ECLIPSE at 15°25 AQUARIUS
August 7, 2017 | 2:11 PM
Washington, DC

Since a lunar eclipse occurs at a full moon, its energy brings something to a conclusion, which means a matter could be coming to fruition or to an end. However, eclipse energy differs from your typical full (or new) moon because the energy is more intense.

Infused with a certain degree of unpredictability, eclipses are wild cards, which is why they're known as astrological game changers

So how is it even possible to predict with them? To be honest, it's not always easy. However, when an eclipse pattern is part of an ongoing cycle that repeats itself, it makes it easier because as cycles repeat, so do the themes associated with them.

The same eclipses that will occur on August 7 and August 21 of this year also occurred in 1998 (and the 5 eclipses that will occur in 2018 previously occurred in 1999).

Since that time:
  • (a) your lives have changed; and
  • (b) so has the sky (meaning that we're under different transits).
Still, many of you will experience similar themes. Will the outcome be the same? That depends on a combination of (a), (b) and your own free will.

The Big Picture

What makes this month's lunar eclipse so powerful is the position of Mars which, conjunct the Sun, injects this eclipse with an added dose of intensity.  The Sun in Leo is willful, passionate and driven to express its creative nature, and when you combine it with the ambition, initiative and boldness of Mars in Leo, you get a fiery headstrong duo that loves the spotlight, enjoys dramatic displays of power and may (or may not) always pursue noble goals. Meanwhile, directly across the heavens is the Aquarius moon. Saturated in humanitarian energy, this intellectual moon is about creating community, promoting equality, achieving altruistic goals and finds over the top displays of anything rather distasteful.

In a nutshell: On the solar side, you have the Sun and Mars in Leo seeking recognition and personal gain, and on the lunar side, you have the Aquarius Moon advocating for social responsibility and the greater good.

Which side will prevail? Since it's a lunar eclipse, it depends upon the Aquarius Moon and how it handles the opposing energies. If it loses self-control, it will descend into an emotional crisis, but if it can maintain its air of detachment, it can channel this energy productively and ascend to the heights.

On some level, this is true for all of us.

Let's Get Personal

Although the eclipse lands somewhere in everyone's chart and will activate the life areas associated with it, not everyone will experience an eclipse-related event

For an eclipse-related event to occur, there needs to be a direct connection to the chart; in other words, an aspect to a planet, house cusp or other sensitive point (e.g., lunar nodes, midheaven, etc.) in the chart.

Since this eclipse is saturated in progressive, innovative, liberating, rebellious and yes, shocking, Aquarius energy, it brings in a strong possibility that for some an eclipse-related event may coincide with an unforeseen change in one's life.

The hard aspects - conjunction, square and opposition - are the ones most likely to coincide with an event because they're provocative by nature. That's why those born under Aquarius, Leo, Taurus or Scorpio, or who have planets at or near the eclipse degree) will feel this eclipse energy more strongly than the rest of the zodiac.

Whether you're happy with the event may depend upon what else (transits, progressions) is  going on in your chart, but I will say that a trine can bring something to a happy conclusion. As for sextiles, they could bring an opportunity that may or may not be worth pursuing or they may bring nothing at all.

It's important to note that on its own (without associated transits or progressions), a lunar eclipse can coincide with an event. In fact, it's not uncommon at all. I've seen it numerous times in my own life and countless times if I include friends and clients.

An eclipse to the natal Sun is a very powerful energy. If you're born within the time frames below, your Sun is being eclipsed.

Aquarius: Jan 30 - Feb 9 (conjunction)
Leo: Aug 4 - 13  (opposition)
Taurus: May 1 - 11 (square)
Scorpio: Nov 4  - 13 (square)

The Sun represents your identity and life force. In terms of identity, the Sun represents where and how you like to shine, which means this eclipse could bring you into the spotlight. If your health has been in question (especially if it's heart related), this eclipse may bring something to light. Since the Sun also represents romance, children, self-expression and men in general, something may come to fruition, a climax or an ending in connection with any of areas. If a relationship ends under this eclipse, expect it to be final. Although a lunar eclipse is associated with women (see below under "What About the Rest of You?"), an eclipse to your Sun can coincide with a man living your life. This isn't to say he's going to die. It could be someone you work with who suddenly resigns or a neighbor who announces he's sold his home.

Although time doesn't permit me this month to go into detail about the potential impact of the lunar eclipse to every planet, here's a bit of guidance as to which life areas may experience a major event if it aspects your natal:

Moon:  one's mother, family, real estate, security
Mercury:  siblings, cars, neighbors, your local neighborhood
Venus:  finances, love, one-to-one relationships.
Mars:   ambition, vitality, sexual energy
Jupiter:  education, religion, travel, media
Saturn:  one's father, career, status, authority figures
Uranus: casual friends, colleagues; a restriction may suddenly end
Neptune: psychic abilities, spirituality, creativity; illusions may be shattered
Pluto:  intimacy, shared resources, there may be a sudden gain or loss of power

House Cusps

If the eclipse makes a conjunction to a house cusp (and therefore an opposition to the opposing cusp) or makes a square to a pair of house cusps, you may very well experience an eclipse-related event connected to the life areas of the cusps. In terms of the orb (range) for house cusps, I typically allow up to 5° applying and 3° separating.

What About the Rest of You?

Absent a connection to a planet or a sensitive point, it's more likely that something will just be brought to light which can be very good if you've been hoping for clarity. However, given the nature of the energy, it could be surprising (or even shocking) news. Finally, it's not uncommon for a lunar eclipse to coincide with a woman suddenly leaving your life. Again, this isn't to say anyone is going to die; rather, a co-worker may unexpectedly resign or a friend may announce she's moving away.

Which life areas in your chart will be activated by the lunar eclipse? If you don't know which house holds 15°25' Aquarius in your horoscope, you can refer to the list below to find out where the lunar eclipse falls in your solar (sun-sign based) chart).

Releasing with the Aquarius Lunar Eclipse

You can release anything under any lunar eclipse - it's an especially powerful energy for letting go - but  but since this one is saturated in Aquarius energy, it's especially helpful for letting go of:

Negative beliefs, fears or circumstances connected to the achievement of your hopes wishes, goals or matters connected to colleagues, casual friends, humanitarian efforts and group relationships.

Traits or tendencies to be eccentric, callous, condescending, detached, rebellious, unpredictable.

Once the eclipse peaks and the matter is concluded, it's over and the next step is to release any attachment to it.
MERCURY RETROGRADE
August 12 - September 5

For the astrologically unwary, Mercury retrograde periods often coincide with disruptions, interruptions and misunderstandings, but with a little cosmic knowledge you can beat the planetary prankster at his own game.
Introduction

Mercury Retrograde isn’t a crisis. It is merely an inconvenience, albeit one that occurs three (and sometimes four) times a year. Moreover, while its retrograde (Rx) period lasts for about three weeks, its stationary periods often create havoc in our lives, and the “shadow” periods that precede and follow it affect us as well. However, given the dual nature of Mercury, although there is much that can go wrong, there is also much that can go right while Mercury is retrograde.

Therefore, in fairness to the Cosmic Messenger, I present both the pitfalls and the promise of this transit. By working with its energy rather than against it, you can use it to your advantage and put it to productive use, which is far better than just experiencing it as an irritating nuisance.

At the end of this article, I have included a house-by-house analysis to help you make the most of Mercury’s visit to your natal chart. Although you may not be able to beat the Cosmic Trickster at his own game, at least you might prevent him from laughing quite so hard.
Coming Up

In the next issue (August 14), I'll be discussing the "Great American Eclipse" and will be including a detailed house-by-house interpretation to help you better understand where your new beginning may take root. I'll also be talking about the potential influence of Mercury retrograde, as well as the planetary triggers that will reignite the eclipse just a few weeks later!

Until next time,

May Jupiter's blessings be your constant companion,
