Dear Stargazers,

As you might expect, December is always a busy month for me, and with so much planetary activity coming up, I simply couldn't cover everything in this issue. Actually I could, but I wouldn't be doing it justice and since that doesn't work for me, I've decided to send out an extra newsletter later this week.

In this issue (and please forgive any typos):

You'll find the planetary forecast for the next two weeks, along with a special holiday forecast for those of you who celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwaanza and the New Year. While the overall cosmic energy is good, you need to be aware of the potential negative influence of the upcoming Mars-Neptune conjunction that will be in effect on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Also in this issue is Capricorn's (mini) year-ahead horoscope is below. If you have Capricorn rising or any planets in Capricorn for that matter, I recommend you read it as well because many of the insights about the extreme planetary makeover targeting this sign are likely to apply to you. I've also included some insights about Mercury Rx and Mars in Pisces.

In the next issue which will hit your inbox by December 23I'll be writing about the upcoming Jupiter-Uranus opposition on December 26 (this is the first in a series of three); the Capricorn new moon on December 29; the influence of Uranus stationing direct the very same day and some personalized guidance for every sign regarding the Mars-Neptune conjunction.

Got it? Great!  Now, before I get started, I want to share a photo from my recent lecture at the NYC Astrology Meetup. We had a great turnout despite the pouring rain, and what made the evening especially meaningful was the opportunity to meet some of you in person. If you live or work in the metro NYC area, you might want to consider joining friendly, astrology-loving
group. You can click here to learn more about it (as well as view two more photos!)

Transiting Mars in Pisces

After inhaling several big breaths of Aquarius air, Mars dove into the watery world known as Pisces where he quickly discovered that his role as the conquering hero was at odds with this gentle, sensitive and sentimental sign that offers everyone kindness, compassion and counseling.  Read More>>
Mercury Stations Retrograde

Just after Mercury stations retrograde, the electoral college is scheduled to cast its votes for the President of the USA. I stand by my prediction weeks ago that whatever happens (or doesn't) in connection with this vote will not negate or overturn Trump's victory.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAPRICORN!

With Pluto moving through Capricorn and Uranus barreling through Aries, the past few years have forced the security-loving Seagoat to live with uncertainty. Although this lesson won't be officially over until Uranus enters Taurus in 2018, next year you'll catch a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel.

Whether you experienced (or will experience) the influence of Uranus and Pluto jointly or separately, the bottom line is that every Capricorn (including me) is targeted for an extreme makeover.

Depending on when you were born, you either:

(a) Already had your extreme planetary makeover;
(b) Are in the midst of it;
(c) Are about to begin it;
(d) Or will just be experiencing the Uranus portion of it.

No matter where you are in the process, the end result is the same; namely, some part of your life will be forever changed; and for some of you, it will be radical. As a fellow Capricorn, I'm not going to sugarcoat these energies. Depending upon your personal horoscope, they can coincide with some type of crisis. If you're a December or early January Seagoat, that may have been your experience. It doesn't necessarily mean it was (or will be) a physical crisis (illness). It can career-related or of an economic nature or perhaps it involves relationship or is a crisis of faith. Whatever the situation, Pluto's purpose is to eliminate what is no longer necessary or holding you back from your spiritual path, or in some cases, it's a crisis your soul agreed to experience as part of its spiritual journey.

That said, Pluto does replace whatever it takes away, and if you don't understand why you had to release something, when the new comes in, the reason becomes clear. Now don't get me wrong; you're probably never going to look back, smile and say "Gee, I'm so happy I went through that experience!" But, you'll understand why it happened, and you'll come to appreciate the result. The key to navigating hard Pluto transits, especially the conjunction, is simple: The more you resist, the harder it is and the more drained you will feel when
it's over.

And then there's Uranus. Let's be honest, Capricorn likes security and stability and the unpredictable, fly-by-the-seat-of-its-pants style of Uranus in Aries can give the Seagoat anxiety and nightmares. However, there's a purpose to this energy as well, which is to teach you how to be more adaptable to changing circumstances. It's also meant to infuse you with boldness and shatter any fears connected to public approval. In other words, Uranus fuels your drive to distinguish yourself and stand out in the crowd without worrying about what other people will think about it. When Uranus aspects one's Sun, it can thrust them into the spotlight, which for some of you would be another lesson in adaptability.

With all this turbulent energy, is there any ease involved? Yes, and it's called Jupiter.

With Jupiter in Libra moving through your solar 10th house, it offers the opportunity to expand your career or calling and garner public recognition for it. Since Libra squares Capricorn, Jupiter's provocative energy might just be the big push you need to reach and grab the brass ring. Just keep in mind that this energy can promote overconfidence, arrogance and a know-it-all type of attitude. It's important to stay humble, and for that you can count on some help from Neptune. Since its influence will be subtle, it's up to you to be aware of it and tap into this gentle, intuitive and compassionate energy.

While 2017 will be more intense for those born during the last 10 days of Capricorn, all Seagoats are being asked to reinvent and/or define themselves on some level. When Saturn enters Capricorn on December 19, 2017, he will ask all of his children to set a new goal, and those of you who achieve it by the time Saturn enters Aquarius in late 2020 will be greatly rewarded. Best of all, along the way you can count on help from Uranus in Taurus (starting in 2018) and Jupiter in Capricorn (starting 2019).

Although there's still work to be done in 2017, stay course and keep your eye on the prize, because your star is on the rise.

PLANETARY FORECAST
(December 19 - 31)

Note: Mercury will be retrograde during this period, so even the best days may be subject to a bit of planetary static. On another note, be sure to check that gifts given or receive actually work before you discard receipts, especially if they're of an electronic, digital or mechanical nature.

Best Days

While there are other days during this time frame that fine, these are the best of the bunch. What do I mean by the best? The energy is flowing, the moon isn't void and there's a greater likelihood for happy and/or productive outcomes.

December 21, 23, 24, 28

Best Avoided

The energies on these days aren't favorable for new ventures or any activity where you want or need a definite result. If you must schedule something, you may have to think on your feet, or there may be a need for patience or flexibility.

SPECIAL HOLIDAY FORECAST

Thanks to a lovely trine between Saturn and Uranus, a calm ad stable energetic influence will rule the day on December 24th (Christmas Eve and the first night of Hanukkah). If you celebrate either holiday, you may feel as though your plans received a celestial stamp of approval.

On December 25 (Christmas day and the second night of Hanukkah, you may feel especially festive as Venus adds some holiday cheer. As Venus takes turns dancing with Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus, some of you may become so wrapped up in the holiday spirit that you'll spend a bit of time under the mistletoe.  The 25th isn't listed as one of the best days because the moon is void until 10:52 PM EST, so while it doesn't support decisions or actions that require definite results, it's energy is favorable for relaxing, catching up on busy work and socializing.

As the evening draws to a close, Jupiter and Uranus will almost be just hours away from an exact opposition. Consequently, there may be a sudden shift in the energy that could be described as exciting. Whenever you're dealing with Uranus, it's hard to predict whether such excitement is rooted in happiness or anxiety. We'll likely find out on December 26 (Kwaanza), which is the day the aspect is exact and the energy peaks. There'll be more about this aspect in the extra issue coming to your inbox later this week!

There's not a single exact aspect in the sky on December 31 as we prepare to welcome the New Year, but on January 1, 2017 (the last day of Hanukkah) transiting Mars will make an exact conjunction to transiting Neptune at 1:53 AM EST. By the time an aspect is exact, the event has usually occurred. In other words, events tend to occur as the energy is building. This means you can expect to feel this influence the strongest on New Year's Eve

What kind of influence? It varies, and how you experience it, as well as to what degree, depends on your individual chart. However, below is my astrological opinion as to what will be the most common influences.

Mars is an impulsive planet that represents action, passion and anger. Neptune is a transcendental planet that represents vision, compassion and self-undoing.

On a practical everyday level, this planetary combination can inspire procrastination, so don't be surprised if you (or someone else) decides to blow off plans in favor of staying home and watching a movie.

In the highest sense, this energy may inspire you with renewed hope or a perhaps a new dream for the coming year.

In the lowest sense, this energy can blow things out of proportion. It would be wise to avoid discussing any potential hot button issues under this influence.

Finally, and perhaps most important, when you combine impulsive action (Mars) with alcohol or drugs (Neptune), the potential for overindulging, as well as a nasty hangover and/or regrets for one's behavior, is high. Worse, although it would be an extreme manifestation, this planetary combination can coincide with a substance-related accident, alcohol poisoning or an overdose. This is especially important if you're on any type of medication (Neptune) that warns against alcohol consumption. Yes, I know I'm a party pooper but (as you should know by now!), I don't tell you what you want to hear; I tell you what you need to know.

On a happier note, both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are under the influence of the 12/29 new moon, and although the Mercury Rx transit may cause a delay in new starts (more on that in the next issue), this lovely energy will take us into the new year.
