Subject: Astrology, Eggs and What Was I Thinking?

Dear Stargazers,

Last night I decided to make a couple of hard boiled eggs, so I placed two eggs in a pot of water on the stovetop.

After I turned on the flame, I checked the news on my phone, and an article about a celebrity caught my attention that made me think, "I've got to look at this horoscope."

I had only just turned on the gas, so I hurried into my office and pulled up the chart so I could take a quick peek at it but quickly become engrossed in it.
A while later, I heard a loud "POP" followed by the immediate sound of something hitting the floor.

It sounded like it came from the kitchen, but I had absolutely no idea what could have caused it until I walked into the kitchen and saw Valentino sniffing a piece of eggshell.

That's right. I totally forgot about the eggs on the stove.

After turning off the gas and thanking God that I wasn't cooking something that could have burst into flames, my immediate thought was "What was I thinking? How could I have gotten so distracted that I forgot about this?"

I heard an immediate answer: My Mercury in Sagittarius.

While it may sound tongue in cheek, astrologically speaking it actually has merit because Mercury rules the mind, including one's memory, ability to focus and powers of concentration.

Although Mercury is known for its intellect, curiosity and communication skills, it can also be easily distracted and has a well-deserved reputation for being absent minded.  When it's in Sagittarius, a restless sign that rules higher knowledge, its curiosity is increased along with its tendency to be scatterbrained.

Fortunately, Mercury in Sagittarius gives me a sense of humor and the ability to laugh at myself, and I posted the photo on Instagram with the hashtag #mercuryinsagittarius.

In fairness, being born Mercury in Sagittarius isn't all bad. In fact, it has many wonderful qualities and in may ways its expression in my life has been quite fortunate for me. That said, I'll refrain from going on about them here because it would sound like I was bragging which, along with a tendency for interrupting, is one of the less flattering Mercury in Sagittarius traits. ?
Mercury is a personal planet, and like the Moon, it tends to be underrated in natal astrology. Why? Because in most cases people are far more interested in the Sun (their identity), Venus (their money & love life), Jupiter (their luck & good fortune) and Saturn (their trials and lessons).

Meanwhile, natal Mercury is the one that reveals:
  • How well (or not) you express your feelings, opinions, wants and desires.
  • The way you make decisions (quickly, methodically, intuitively or analytically).
  • Your attitude towards small talk, networking and socializing.
  • How you perceive and learn.
  • Whether you tend to feel misunderstood.
  • Your thought process (logical, abstract, intuitive).
  • Talents (or challenges) connected to writing, teaching, speaking and negotiating.
  • Your communication style (verbose, succinct, flowery or scholarly)
  • The presence of certain intuitive abilities.
It's all part of your personal Mercury story, and it can only be told through a detailed analysis of your natal Mercury by:
  • Zodiac sign, condition (retrograde, intercepted)
  • House location and house rulerships (the ones with Gemini and Virgo on the cusps)
  • Aspects between Mercury and the Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Chiron, Ascendant, Midheaven and the Lunar Nodes.
I usually don't send out several emails promoting an offer, but last night's kitchen disaster reminded me of just how important Mercury is in our chart. It's also a perfect example of the downside of mine, but the good news is now that I've been reminded of it, I'll be much more conscious of it in the future.

And that's the gift of any natal reading. It makes you aware of the potentials and pitfalls in your chart, which then gives you the power to maximize the promises and mitigate the drawbacks.
