Thanks for attending last week's Short Films Walk! That was just the warm up for the main event – the Architecture & Design Film Festival which starts this Wednesday, Oct 15th and runs thru Sunday, Oct 19th
This year, there are a total of 25 feature length and short films, curated into 14 programs. You can get information on film schedules, see trailers and buy tickets at www.adfilmfest.com.

This beautifully crafted Belgium film directed by the photographer Marie-Françoise Plissart is the story of a creation of a theater which is part modern and part renovation and inserted into the historical buildings of Liege. The director captures the humanity of project through a wide range of the building participants including the architect, the demolition experts, the plasterers and the crane operator who listens to opera while operating the crane. This is screening with an animated short, DLRG, about a unique building by Berlin architect Ludwig Leo.

Program 10The Italian architect Michele De Lucchi is radical. This film looks at his early work in the 1960’s, his work at Olivetti, the adventure of Memphis and his current fascination working with a chain saw. In Italy every designer knows his name. Director Alessio Bozzer will be at the Thursday screening for a Q&A. Watch the Trailer

Program 11
This film is about the maker movement in America and looks at how new tools like 3D printers and computer controlled cutters are changing the ways products are being made. These technology changes, coupled with a new interest in 'making with our hands' are creating a new wave of designers. The film shows with Making Design Lab which features a fantastic project being designed and built at the NY Hall of Science, and Houdini of Design: Patrick Jouin which shows the methods and thinking of this renowned designer.

Program 6
Architect EugeneTssui is a passionate architect who is trying to change the world. His unique designs are courageous and thought-provoking. He will be at both screenings with the director for a Q&A after each screening. Tssui, who will be wearing clothing of his own design, makes a strong statement with everything he touches. watch trailer

Program 12
This beautifully crafted film won the prize for Best Portuguese Documentary in the Arquitecturas Film Festival in Lisbon. Director Luciana Fina will be here from Portugal for a Q&A after each screening.
Director Luciana Fina looks at architecture as a place where people interact with one another, with nature, with other creatures and with inanimate objects. Her subject, Manuel Tainha, holds a key position in the field of architecture in Portugal. To engage in a dialogue with his ethics and poetics is to experience space, light, materials, and movement. |
| CONVERSATIONS:ADFF will have 3 special conversations. These take place in the Varick Room at the festival. Admission to the Conversations is free and does not require a ticket. Get there early to get a seat.
