Subject: ADFF Newsletter NY 2012 Wrap Up

Dear Friend,

The October film festival at Tribeca Cinemas was a blast! Nearly 4,000 people experienced a myriad of events.

It all started with the October 2nd kick-off party for Archtober at the Poltrona Frau showroom.

On October 18th, there was a packed audience at ADFF’s dual opening night films and parties; one uptown in the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center,

and one downtown at Tribeca Cinemas. A number of luminaries attended our two opening night parties including Richard Meier, Larry Silverstein, Massimo and Lella Vignelli, Richard Saul Wurman, David Childes, Bill Pedersen, Michael Boodro, Wendy Goodman, Cathleen McGuigan, Pilar Vilades, Steven Heller, Joe Mizzi of Sciame and so many others.

On Saturday, October 20th, a brunch was held at the SICIS showroom to honor Michael Arad.

This was followed by a full weekend of fabulous films and panel discussions that included Massimo Vignelli, Charles Renfro, Martin Pederson, Rick Bell, Suzanne Stephens, Claire Weisz and Eric Kenue, among others. Q&A’s with filmmakers from Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Vancouver, Boston and New York offered audiences an opportunity to get behind the scenes of many films that were being screened at the festival.

The Audi architectural driving tours led by guides from the Municipal Art Society were a big hit and the festival’s lounge was a lively scene with people browsing the books and DVD’s at the Rizzoli pop-up bookstore, or lounging in the Varick Room where the furniture was supplied by sponsors Poltrona Frau, Resource Furniture and Kartell. Lladro’s new collection of decorative ceramic objects and figures added a fun, whimsical touch to the lounge.
Working with Tribeca Cinemas is a continued effort to provide them with permanent design upgrades, and has resulted in two beautiful bathrooms designed by Waterworks, a new concession area by Scavolini and new carpeting by FLOR.

Immediately following the festival, Kyle Bergman, one of ADFF’s directors, headed off to Mexico City and then to Sofia, Bulgaria to bring a little of ADFF’s programming to other festivals.

In 2013, ADFF will add Los Angeles to its festival circuit in March and then back to Chicago for the third year in April.

Thank you for helping to make the festival bigger and better each year – we appreciate your support and welcome your comments.
